Antifouling is an essential operation for maintaining your boat's performance and protecting the hull against marine growth. NV Marine carries out complete hull maintenance: high-pressure cleaning of the underwater hull, removal of barnacles and algae, and sanding of damaged areas.
Once the surface is prepared, antifouling paint is applied in accordance with the recommendations suited to your sailing area and usage — occasional or regular cruising. Replacement of sacrificial anodes is systematically checked to ensure cathodic protection of your hull.
NV Marine works on the maintenance areas at marinas along the Hérault coastline and advises you on the right antifouling frequency for your vessel.
In detail
Annual antifouling is the fundamental maintenance operation for any boat sailing in salt water. It determines the protection of the hull, sailing performance and the lifespan of immersed fittings. NV Marine carries out complete hull maintenance at marinas along the Hérault coastline.
High-pressure cleaning of the underwater hull removes biological fouling (algae, barnacles, mussels) that has built up over the season. The hull is then inspected: gelcoat condition, presence of osmosis, condition of skin fittings, seacocks, anodes, propeller and prop shaft.
Antifouling application is the key stage. NV Marine recommends and applies the antifouling suited to your sailing area and boat type: eroding antifouling for boats that sail infrequently, hard antifouling for high-speed craft. Zinc sacrificial anodes are systematically replaced to protect immersed metals.
A thorough antifouling by NV Marine also includes checking and lubricating seacocks, greasing rudder gland seals and inspecting skin fittings to prevent any risk of water ingress.

Frequently asked questions
When is the best time for antifouling?
Antifouling is ideally done in spring before the season, or in autumn when the boat is laid up. In the Mediterranean, once a year is generally sufficient.
Which antifouling should I choose for the Mediterranean?
In the Mediterranean, eroding antifoulings are widely used. For boats that sail regularly, a hard antifouling offers better protection. NV Marine advises you according to your sailing profile.
Do the anodes need replacing at every antifouling?
Sacrificial anodes should be replaced when they are more than 50 % consumed. In practice, annual replacement at antifouling time is good practice.
Can NV Marine handle the haul-out?
NV Marine works on boats already hauled out on marina maintenance areas. The haul-out itself is to be arranged with the marina.
Why check the skin fittings during antifouling?
Skin fittings are hull penetrations for water circuits. A failed seal or a seized seacock can lead to water ingress. Antifouling is the ideal time to check them.
