Sun, salt and the elements gradually dull the gelcoat on your boat. Machine polishing restores the original shine and depth of colour while removing micro-scratches and oxidation marks.
NV Marine uses professional products suited to each type of surface — white gelcoat, coloured gelcoat, stainless steel and aluminium. The process includes a deep clean, multi-pass polishing with progressively finer abrasives, followed by the application of a long-lasting protective wax.
This treatment is recommended at least once a year to maintain your vessel's appearance and protect surfaces against UV and salt damage.
In detail
Professional polishing is much more than a cosmetic operation. A gelcoat that is regularly treated withstands UV, seawater, limescale deposits and micro-scratches far better. NV Marine carries out hull and deck polishing and waxing using professional machines and products.
Preliminary decontamination removes stubborn deposits: limescale, iron oxide and waterline staining. Polishing is then carried out in progressive passes, from the finest abrasive through to the finishing compound, to eliminate micro-scratches and restore gelcoat brilliance.
Final protection — marine wax or ceramic coating — extends the result and makes routine cleaning easier. A ceramic coating offers long-lasting UV and deposit protection with simplified maintenance.
NV Marine also treats stainless steel surfaces (pulpit rails, guardrails, winches) with appropriate products to remove surface rust and restore a bright finish. Aluminium parts and wheelhouse windows receive treatment specific to their condition.

Annual polishing recommended
Frequently asked questions
How often should a boat hull be polished?
Annual polishing is recommended to keep the gelcoat in good condition. In areas heavily exposed to the Mediterranean sun, twice a year may be worthwhile.
What is the difference between polishing and waxing?
Polishing removes micro-scratches and oxidation through light abrasion. Waxing provides the final gloss. The two are complementary for the best result.
Is ceramic coating worth the investment?
Ceramic coating offers longer-lasting protection than conventional wax (2 to 3 years versus 3–6 months) and makes regular cleaning easier. It is particularly well suited to boats exposed to the Mediterranean sun.
Can a heavily oxidised gelcoat be polished?
Yes, in most cases. Heavily oxidised gelcoats require a more aggressive polishing stage before waxing. NV Marine assesses the condition before recommending a suitable treatment.
Can NV Marine treat stainless steel and windows?
Yes, stainless steel treatment (rust removal, buffing) and window treatment (defogging, hydrophobic coating) are part of the services offered.
